Aboriginal Cultural Awareness & Engagement Workshop

/

Thank you to everyone who came out to MEIA’s Aboriginal Cultural Awareness & Engagement Workshop in collaboration with Okimaw Community & HR Solutions!

Elder Chickadee Richard opened the session with a prayer and discussion about what is cultural awareness. She shared her wisdom about the role of an elder, traditional values, customs, and protocols of community.

Course instructors Miranda Kennedy and Kyra Wilson walked participants through a general overview of the history and current issues impacting Aboriginal peoples in Canada. This included government policies & legislation, treaties & territories, band councils, the effects of residential schools and the 60’s scoop.

March 10th was Part One – we’re looking forward to learning more next week for Part Two!
