Introducing Wade Davis – Emerging Issues 2020 Keynote
MEIA Emerging Issues 2020 is only one week away! We’re excited by the amazing lineup of speakers for the conference and would like to take a moment to share with you some of that excitement.
Introducing Wade Davis. Wade is an Explorer-in-Residence at the National Geographic Society. Named by the NGS as one of the Explorers for the Millennium, he has been described as “a rare combination of scientist, scholar, poet and passionate defender of all of life’s diversity.” He has a long lists of books, awards, lectures, and films to his name, so choosing only a few to highlight is tough, but here’s a start: Watch Wade’s lecture ‘The Wayfinders: Why Ancient Wisdom Matters in the Modern World’
If you missed his article ‘The Unravelling of America’ in The Rolling Stone this summer, read it here.
Wade was interviewed earlier this year at the Stratford Festival, which has been published by the CBC. He says, “Every culture has a unique answer to a fundamental question: what does it mean to be human and alive?… And those voices and those answers collectively become our human repertoire for dealing with the challenges we’ll confront in the coming centuries.”

Keynote Wade Davis will be presenting on November 27 ahead of the Aboriginal Elders Panel on Friday morning. Click here to register for Emerging Issues 2020

Globe Series: Leveraging COVID to Transition to Circular Plastics
Wednesday, November 18
10am–11am PT
Online
Free
Prior to the pandemic, jurisdictions around the world were making huge inroads towards developing circular plastics economies. Now, we’re using 250-300% more single-use plastics alone than we were before COVID-19, with potentially devastating consequences for our oceans, our wildlife, and our health.
Tough times call for brave, bold action from leaders across the plastics value chain and a systemic approach that includes upstream and downstream sources, recycling, reducing and substituting, and collection and disposal.
Join us as we explore not IF but HOW Canada can leverage the transition to a sustainable circular plastics economy as a strategy for post-COVID economic recovery. This session will identify the key strengths and weaknesses in our plastics system, as well as emerging opportunities. Be part of the group of leaders who shape our circular plastics economy.

Canadian Centre for Energy Information
To help Canadians, governments, the industry and other stakeholders across the country better understand this key sector, Statistics Canada, working in collaboration with Natural Resources Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada, and the Canada Energy Regulator, is proud to announce the launch of the Canadian Centre for Energy Information (CCEI).
The CCEI will address long-standing challenges in accessing Canada’s energy information by serving as a user-friendly hub with access to all energy-related information and data, such as production, consumption, international trade and much more. This initial launch of the website includes information from over 50 different sources, including all levels of governments, academics, the industry and international organizations.

Natural Resources Canada’s Industrial Energy Management Program – Now Accepting Applications
Natural Resources Canada’s Industrial Energy Management program is now accepting applications for funding until November 20 at 23:59 EST for projects to be completed by March 31, 2022. To request the application package, send an email to RFP for Industry.
Financial assistance is available to help fund your industrial facility’s energy management project. Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) will provide financial assistance of up to 50% of eligible costs, to a maximum of $40,000 per facility. This financial assistance can be combined with other funding sources. When it is, NRCan may adjust its level of funding so that the combined level of financial assistance from all public sources does not exceed 75% of total eligible project costs.
There are three types of eligible projects:
- ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems Standard projects
- Energy Management Information Systems (EMIA) projects
- Process Integration (PI) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) studies
Eligible facilities are those engaged in energy consuming processes that involve the physical or chemical transformation of materials or substances into new products. Products may be finished (ready to use or consume) or semi-finished (raw material). Related activities include assembling component parts, blending materials, and finishing products.
To receive our cost-shared assistance, the company/facility needs to be a CIPEC leader.
