Manitoba Regulatory Consultation Portal Open for Feedback on Adopting the 2015 National Building Code, National Plumbing Code, National Fire Code and 2017 National Energy Code for Buildings.

Manitoba is proposing to adopt the 2015 national model codes published by the National Research Council, including the 2015 editions of the National Building Code, National Plumbing Code, National Fire Code as well as the 2017 edition of the National Energy Code for Buildings.

Provinces and territories adopt national model codes but have done so on different timeframes and often with substantive variations to the national codes. This has resulted in a patchwork of provincial and territorial approaches to construction codes resulting in unnecessary complexity for industry and compliance challenges.

Manitoba has currently adopted the 2010 editions of the national model Building, Plumbing and Fire codes as well as the 2011 edition of the Energy Code for Buildings. The new codes must be adopted by regulation, with any Manitoba specific amendments included in the relevant code. It is anticipated that the proposed changes would come into force November 1, 2022.

Manitoba welcomes feedback on this through the Regulatory Consultation Portal until midnight on August 16.
