Important: This position is funded through a Government of Canada youth program that requires candidates to be 30 years old or younger and be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. It is meant for graduates with a science, technology or engineering degree and with some experience in a related field.

Company

Carbon Lock Tech is a Manitoba-based cleantech startup focused on addressing climate change through carbon dioxide removal and sequestration. The company is currently developing systems and technologies for converting organic matter into a stable form of biocarbon that can be sequestered or “locked” into a range of valuable applications.

Responsibilities include:

Design, co-ordinate and execute experiments to assess high-value applications to maximize biochar sequestration potential
Interpret and analyze experimental data from pyrolysis process as well as biochar applications, and present it to the broader team
Investigate the valorization potential of pyrolysis oil
Operate equipment that processes biomass for utilization in the pyrolytic process, which may include “hands on” biomass handling grinding, drying, pelletizing, and pyrolyzing, as well as direct modifications to existing equipment or control systems
Demonstrate comprehension of basic engineering process data to infer operational status
Develop communication and briefing materials for senior management
Required skills and qualifications include:

Graduated from a Canadian recognized environmental, biosystems, chemical or process engineering program, or similar
Registration as an engineer or EIT with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba will be considered an asset
Must be able to work under minimal supervision and demonstrate strong competencies as a self learner and team player
Strong data analysis, reporting and communication (written/verbal) required
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and working on multiple different tasks
Experience and comfort using tools and working with their hands.
Understanding of biomass conversion to biochar process and/or chemistry (an asset)
Application Process

Applicants must be legal residence of Manitoba.
Applicants must be able to get themselves to work in Headingley, Manitoba.
The applicant must meet funding requirements and be approved by the funding agency before employment can commence. The program requires candidates to be 30 years old or younger and also to be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
