This comprehensive full-day workshop, developed by Ininiw Strategies, will empower industry professionals with the knowledge and tools needed to build strong, ethical, and sustainable partnerships in Manitoba’s mining and energy sectors.
By focusing on legal compliance, best practices, and meaningful engagement strategies, this initiative will contribute to long-term Indigenous reconciliation and responsible resource development. The workshop will align with industry priorities while fostering mutual respect and trust between Indigenous Nations and corporate stakeholders.
Enhance Understanding of Indigenous Rights & Reconciliation
- Provide an in-depth overview of Indigenous histories, legal rights, and governance structures.
- Explain historic and contemporary challenges and opportunities that relate to reconciliation efforts.
- Demonstrate how reconciliation principles apply to corporate and industry engagement with Indigenous Nations.
Clarify the Duty to Consult & Accommodate in the Mining & Energy Sectors
- Review Canada’s First Nations Consultation and Accommodation Policy and Manitoba’s Crown Consultation Framework.
- Explore case studies of both successful and unsuccessful consultation processes, identifying key lessons learned.
- Examine the role of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) under UNDRIP and its application to consultation and accommodation.
