Manitoba Hydro has a comprehensive and focused approach to the management of hazardous materials in the workplace. The
Property & Corporate Environment Department plays a lead role in providing policy direction and technical support to Manitoba
Hydro's staff and contractors to ensure that hazardous materials are managed safely and in full compliance with legal requirements
at all times. The successful applicant will act as a corporate subject-matter expert on the transportation of dangerous goods and will
support other staff in the development and delivery of corporate hazardous materials programs.

Reporting to Manitoba Hydro's Senior Hazardous Materials Specialist, this position will be responsible for the development and
delivery of corporate programs, policies and procedures related to the transportation of dangerous goods (surface). They will also
provide assistance with other hazardous materials programs including releases and PCB management, in order to support Manitoba
Hydro's compliance with safety, health and environmental legislation.


  • A Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering from a recognized university with extensive training in Chemistry and/or
  • Environmental Sciences as well as a minimum of six years directly related experience in transportation of dangerous goods/environmental management/protection programs.
  • A graduate degree in a relevant field would be considered an asset.
  • Experience in developing and implementing programs related to environmental stewardship and enhancement, particularly for transportation of dangerous goods.\Extensive experience with and a thorough understanding of federal and provincial regulatory requirements applicable to Canadian Electrical and Gas Utilities/industry.
  • Well-developed computer skills including the ability to maintain and manipulate data within a database.
  • Demonstrated ability in collecting and analyzing data in order to prepare clear and concise technical reports.
  • Demonstrated ability in preparing, delivering and facilitating effective presentations, workshops and training seminars.
  • Demonstrated teamwork, enthusiasm and initiative to effect improvements in Corporate programs for protecting the health and safety of employees, the public, and the environment.
  • Prepared to work in a variety of challenging environments.
  • Prepared to travel extensively and possess a valid Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence.
